The Nintendo Switch is long past the traditional lifespan for a console and its technological limitations are rendering it unable to stand up to current generation systems for new games. Titles such as have struggled in making versions that can run on the outdated system, and Nintendo itself appears to be focusing heavily on remakes and remasters. As beloved as the Switch has been, and with as popular of a console as it continues to be, the next system will need to include many impressive features if it hopes to see similar numbers in sales.
Many went into September's Nintendo Direct presentation hoping for an announcement of a new Nintendo console and were disappointed when this was not the case. Previously there had been rumors that Nintendo had revealed details about the next system to a select audience at the 2023 Gamescom, and it remains likely that the next in the family of Nintendo consoles is coming sometime in 2024. As beloved as the Nintendo Switch currently is, there are a few features that the next generation needs to include if it hopes to be able to compete with the Switch's legacy.

The Nintendo 3DS and 2DS handheld systems included a fun customization option that allowed people to download and install themes to their systems. These themes would change up the backgrounds and even some of the icons for buttons, providing a little more fun to the system itself. With the My Nintendo rewards points and store, reintroducing themes as downloadable packs to give a fresh and custom experience to the Switch 2's virtual screens would make sense as another reason to want to collect points, and would give people a customization
