The Summer Games Fest has closed with a new trailer for the highly anticipated Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. The trailer teases that the “unknown journey continues” and that is true, this doesn’t appear to a slavish remake of the second part of Final Fantasy VII. Sure, there are key locations and characters – Red XIII! – but the story is taking a different path to the original game.
There are suggestions that some plot lines will be picked up, “they’re connected to Sephiroth, shadows of the man I believe we call them” is a definite hint of that one of the original games’ storylines will continue. There’s also talk of female character killed by Sephiroth.
Quite possibly the biggest news is the game, which is PS5 exclusive, will come on two HD blu-rays when it launches in early 2024.
Producer Yoshinori Kitase has confirmed that the whole project will be split into three parts, with Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Rebirth and an unnamed third game – creative director Tetsuya Nomura said that some development of this third title has already begun.
“Making the middle part of a trilogy has its own challenges, but there are plenty of classic second instalments in the world of film that are defined by stunning story twists and deeper explorations of their characters,” says producer Yoshinori Kitase. “Often these second instalments become a favourite amongst the fans. In the same vein, we are aiming to make FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH an even more gripping and memorable experience than FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE, so please wait a little longer while we finish up.”
Final Fantasy VII Remake was released back in April 2020 with the Intergrade version being released in June 2021. The Intergrade version added multitude of lighting and texture
