Contrary to popular belief, it appears the Ms. Marvel series did not change the titular characters' powers because of the upcoming Fantastic Four film according to one of the series writers. The premiere of the latest Disney+ series Ms. Marvel is only days away, as this relatively new but incredibly popular Marvel superhero is set to join the ever-growing Marvel Cinematic Universe. Early word of mouth on the series has been positive, and Marvel clearly has big things planned for the character as she is already set to appear in The Marvels due out in theaters on July 28, 2023.
Yet while many are excited to see Ms. Marvel make the leap to live-action, one of the series' most controversial decisions has been to change the character's powers. In the original comics, Ms. Marvel was a polymorph who could extend her limbs to any size due to her Inhuman DNA. Yet the series trailers and promotional material have showcased the hero conjuring purple light-based energy power that is derived from mysterious bracelets she wears. This is a major change from the comics and rumors circulated the reason for the change was it was too similar to the powers of Mr. Fantastic of the Fantastic Four. Audiences got a glimpse at the character's Earth-838 version in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness before the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot so there was speculation that Marvel Studios didn't want two characters with similar abilities.
