Jon Watts has exited the MCU's Fantastic Four reboot, but finding a new director is not the movie's most difficult mission. Following Disney's acquisition of Fox, it was only a matter of time before the MCU started developing projects centered around the world of the X-Men and the Fantastic Four. After two different versions of the Fantastic Four made under Fox, the most recent one being the critically panned Fantastic Four (2015), the MCU cannot afford to fail in rebooting such important characters to the Marvel universe.
After the defeat of Thanos in Avengers: Endgame, it would be challenging for the MCU to continue the franchise now that so many key characters like Tony Stark and Steven Rogers have either died or retired. However, with the Fantastic Four and the X-Men in the cards, the MCU's future has never been so exciting. Even if it takes a while for Avengers 5 to happen, the MCU will soon have two big potential Avengers replacements.

That said, the success the franchise managed to achieve without counting on Spider-Man, mutants, or the Fantastic Four for years cannot be overlooked. Naturally, that brings even bigger expectations for what the MCU will do with heroes like Mister Fantastic and Invisible Woman and villains like Doctor Doom. Although the Fantastic Four movie is still a few years away, especially now that it has lost its director, it did not take long for the MCU to start making use of the superhero team.
