Of all the various complicated relationships in DC Comics, Batman and Talia al Ghul easily have one of the worst, which their son Robin knows all too well. Many of Damian Wayne’s issues stem from his unconventional childhood and despite how much he might want his parents to get along, their relationship is actively detrimental to both of them. And Damian has pinpointed why this is.
Batman has had a variety of different lovers over the years, but Talia has an especially important relationship with the Dark Knight. While Batman has had deeply personal relationships with other villains like Catwoman before, Talia’s moral code is more at odds with Bruce’s than Selina’s is, which makes their disagreements more extreme (which is saying something, given Batman and Catwoman's morals can differ drastically). Beyond just pure attraction, the two are also connected through their son Damian. While they may disagree on what is best for their son, they both clearly care about his well-being. And Damian cares deeply about both of his parents, even if he can clearly see the major flaws in their relationship.

In Robin #15 written by Joshua Williamson with pencils by Roger Cruz, Batman and Talia fight over which one of them Damian should be with. When words prove not to be enough to resolve their debate, the two attempt to physically attack each other, but Robin steps in and stops them.
