For the first time ever there is serious talk of a sequel to fan favourite Fallout: New Vegas, although if it happens it’s a long way off.
All the Fallout games have been popular but 2010’s New Vegas has always been a particular favourite, and yet curiously there’s never been any talk of a remaster or sequel – until now.
Some fans have speculated that publisher Bethesda secretly resent the fact that New Vegas is so popular, since it was made by external developer Obsidian Entertainment, but whether that’s true or not Microsoft now owns both companies.
As such, insider Jeff Grubb claims that plans to create a sequel to the game are now in ‘very early talks’ at Microsoft, which means that, even if it’s given the greenlight, it will be ‘years and years away’.
Grubb revealed the information during his Giant Bomb podcast and has previously proven accurate about a wide range of different games, even if he’s not had any major scoops on Bethesda properties before.
‘A lot of people at Microsoft think this could work and there’s a lot of interest to make it happen’, he stated.
Obsidian has previously expressed interest in making a sequel, although they’ve always been diplomatic enough not to speculate on why it hasn’t happened before.
They are currently quite busy though, with first person action role-player Avowed, which seems to bear an uncanny resemblance to Bethesda’s Skyrim, and The Outer Worlds 2 – as well as ongoing support for live service game Grounded.
That alone explains why the sequel is still a long way off, although an official announcement could happen at any time.
