The Walking Dead star Khary Payton recently commented on the series ending with season 11. Debuting in 2010, The Walking Dead centers on a revolving cast of characters as they survive the years following a viral zombie outbreak that led to the downfall of human civilization. Payton joined the long-running horror series in season 7 as Ezekiel, the leader of the monarchical community known as the Kingdom.
In 2020, the AMC network announced that season 11 will be The Walking Dead's final season. However, the franchise shows no sign of slowing down as there are at least three spin-off television series planned with one focused on Daryl, a Negan and Maggie series called Isle of the Dead, and an anthology show titled Tales of the Walking Dead, with each episode featuring stories centered on a different character. A trilogy of films centered on former series-lead Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) is also planned for release in the coming years.
