Star Wars has revealed a lot about Obi-Wan Kenobi's backstory before the prequel trilogy. Obi-Wan Kenobi was considered one of the greatest Jedi of the prequel era — a hero of the Clone Wars, a skilled duelist, and a respected member of the Jedi Council. He was one of the few Jedi Masters to survive Order 66, and — as seen in the Obi-Wan Kenobi Disney+ TV show — he even defeated Darth Vader in battle during the Dark Times.
Obi-Wan wasn't perfect, of course; Star Wars tie-ins have confirmed he shared Anakin Skywalker's greatest weakness, his deep-rooted need for attachment. Mike Chen's novel Brotherhood revealed Obi-Wan knew about Anakin and Padmé's relationship all along, but chose to remain silent, hoping his friend could find the peace and happiness he had been denied himself. This proved a cataclysmic mistake, as Anakin's possessive attachment to Padmé ultimately drove a wedge between the Chosen One and the light side of the Force. As great as he may have been, Obi-Wan cannot consider himself innocent in the downfall of the Jedi — nor did he do so.
