The strategy involves clever use of the Mimic's Veil, an item that transforms the player into an inanimate object from their surroundings — in this case, a statue of a lion. With a combination of this and certain other invisibility spells, Dr. Doot manages to hide his character entirely, to the point that Radahn simply doesn't notice him.
