A pre-release build of Persona 5 has leaked, with files from this early version of the game being shared around social media. So far, one of the most interesting finds is a bunch of unreleased music, largely compiled of early versions of tracks that never made it into the final game.
One of the most popular discoveries is an unused version of the title song, Wake Up, Get Up, Get Out There, with a completely different backing track and vocals. Even the lyrics are totally different, pointing to a lot of changes being made during Persona 5's development.
If you're eager to hear what the other tracks sounded like early in development, more than two and a half hours of music from this build has been shared on YouTube. It's a look behind the scenes that we're not often afforded with large productions like Persona 5, since none of this material seems to have been used in the pre-release footage that was shown off ahead of the game's Japanese launch in September 2016, or April 2017 internationally.
Digging around online, these files are reportedly from a prototype dated February 26, 2016. This would be just months before launch, and still, there were so many differences between this and the final build that we'd get on release day. Some very limited information on the prototype can be found on Hidden Palace, a wiki dedicated to preserving pre-release builds of various games, but it appears that fans are still uncovering all that can be found in this copy of the game.
As fans dive in, it's said that they've uncovered a debug menu, cut content, and more. The leaks are credited to the Hiden Palace user, FrostWolf. This user has since indicated that they've accessed a December 2015 build of the game too, so we're probably going to see even more pre-release material shared online.
