Codemasters has released patch 1.3 for EA Sports WRC, which has brought with it key fixes for Unreal Engine shader compilation stutter on PC, as well as added support for the game to work on Steam Deck.
Shader compilation stutter has been a blight for PC gamers over the past few years, with Unreal Engine games often compiling GPU-specific shaders on-the-fly while playing the game, which leads to hitches and stutters the first time any shader or effect is used. This isn’t an issue on console, which have fixed hardware and so can have shaders pre-compiled by developers.
With EA Sports WRC shifting from Codemasters’ old EGO engine to Unreal Engine, and the need for precision during tough rally racing, the game was seriously affected by this. EA Sports WRC patch 1.3 adds support for Unreal PSO Caching, which enables the game to batch pre-compile shaders.
This comes alongside general performance optimisations on all platform, graphical fixes, and other improvements across the whole game.
