December saw a boost in games and console sales over the same period last year.
According to data from GSD (via GamesIndustry.biz) 6.9 million digital and physical games were sold in the UK during December, which amounts to a 2% increase based on the same period in the previous year.
December’s biggest new game was Ubisoft‘s Avatar Frontiers of Pandora, which entered the charts at number 8.
The biggest overall game of the month was EAFC 24, likely boosted by Christmas shopping. The same can be said for Super Mario Bros. Wonder and Hogwarts Legacy which held firm in the top 5. November’s biggest game, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 fell to second place.
Grand Theft Auto 5 made an appearance in fifth place, despite being available on both Xbox Game Pass and PlayStation Plus during the period that these sales were tracked.
PS5 was the UK’s biggest console, with Switch in second and Xbox Series consoles (counted together) in third place. PS5 consoles sales were down 19% from November.
