Throughout your Dungeons & Dragons adventures in 5th Edition, your characters have traversed the globe, set off on land, mountains, desert, sea, and even to hell. Now, they will finally be able to go to space with the upcoming book Spelljammer, which was announced at the very first D&D Direct.
Arriving on August 16, this is more than just a new book. It's a new setting, new adventures, new monsters, and new character options--a major update from the Advanced D&D version from the late '80s. D&D is essentially dropping a whole new game based on the d20 system. And you all get to go to space, which is pretty dang exciting for longtime players. Check out some of the images and alternate covers for this book below.
The upcoming addition to your 5e D&D play contains three 64-page books: Astral Adventurer's Guide, Boo's Astal Menagerie, and Light of Xaryxis. Each of these books serves a specific purpose. Astral Adventurer's Guide is a sourcebook for players and DMs. It contains the rules for running games in wild space and new playable race options.
As for those sweet covers you see abouce, Hydro74 provided the art for all the alternate covers. Astral Adventurer's Guide cover is by Bruce Brenneise, and the Light og Xaryxis cover is by Ekaterina Burmak.

A few of the new monsters that appear in here were mentioned in the D&D Direct, and they include: Space clowns, Vampirates, Murder comets, Giant space hamsters, Solar dragons, and Lunar dragons--because it wouldn't be D&D without new dragons. Now, you can run your own Killer Klowns From Outer Space campaign.
