Immediately after its announcement during the Xbox Showcase, publisher Bethesda has confirmed that DOOM: The Dark Ages will release on PS5, day one in 2025. It signals a change in strategy from the Microsoft-acquired publisher, as its previous post-purchase titles, like Starfield, released exclusively on Xbox Series X|S and PC.
“Developed by id Software on the latest id Tech engine, DOOM: The Dark Ages is a single-player action FPS that tells the epic cinematic origin story of the DOOM Slayer's rage,” the press release reads. “You are the DOOM Slayer, the legendary demon-killing warrior and the super weapon in this never-before-seen dark and sinister medieval war against Hell.”

Great news. Looks brilliant too
I’m sceptical, I keep thinking about the previous game and how you knew which areas were going to be action and which would just be traversal rubbish during your first playthrough. I do like the modern Doom action and mechanics but with each version they seem to be getting away from the origins of why Doom was so great. Narrow corridors, walls disappearing suddenly and monster rushing at you, that kind of suspense. Now he’s just this all killing super knight and it’s starting to get dumb and stale
