Don’t Nod reveals Harmony: The Fall of Reverie, a cyberpunk narrative game with mortals and gods

You may remember during last year’s Game Awards that developer Don’t Nod revealed a new game called Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden. This game stands out from most of the studio’s other game due to its full-on fantasy setting and incorporation of action RPG combat. Interestingly, it turns out that Don’t Nod has been developing another project in tandem with this one. This new game comes in the form of Harmony: The Fall of Reverie, which Don’t Nod unveiled yesterday through a teaser trailer. And, surprisingly, it manages to set itself even further apart from the developer’s usual output.

Up to this point, Don’t Nod’s games have depicted their worlds using 3D models and relatively grounded aesthetics. Harmony, on the other hand, opts for a hand-drawn art style, and although much of its aesthetic remains grounded, it boasts quite a bit more color than usual. To top things off, the last third of the trailer and a screenshot or two on the Steam page depict some truly out-there imagery.

The story of Harmony takes place in a cyberpunk world where a nefarious megacorporation has imposed its will on the population. Polly, the main protagonist, happens to have “a gift of clairvoyance that connects her to” a realm called Reverie. This realm turns her into the goddess Harmony, who has the ability to “restore the delicate balance between the deities’ world and ours.” Much like other Don’t Nod games, Harmony sees you influencing the final outcome by taking one of several narrative paths.
