Prior to launching on February 23, Sons of the Forest, the follow-up to the 2018 horror title The Forest, was the most wishlisted game on Steam, but that is no longer the case. Recently beating out the likes of Starfield to become the most sought after release on the Valve platform was no mean feat, especially for an indie game. The fact that Endnight's sequel was hyped up enough to take the number one spot is not only a testament to how independent studios can stand out among such huge AAA competition, but also proof of people's love of horror.
It goes beyond simple hype as well. When the game was released to alpha recently, Steam's serves temporarily crashed allegedly because of Sons of the Forest. Thousands of reports on Down Detector showed that many were struggling to connect to the PC gaming client. While there was no confirmation as to what was the cause, the fact that the Forest follow-up launched at the time the service went down suggests it was this small, yet highly anticipated, horror game that was the cause of the problem.

However, now that Sons of the Forest is out, it's no longer the most wishlisted game, according to SteamDB, a website that chronicles all things related to Steam. That title now goes to Starfield, which was actually at the top of the PC storefront's wishlist beforehand anyway. With Endnight's horror game now out, this has left room for Bethesda's upcoming sci-fi RPG to once again reclaim its place.
