The Holdovers breakout star Dominic Sessa is in talks to play celebrity chef in the biopic Tony.
Celebrity chef and travel documentarian Anthony Bourdain is probably best known for hosting No Reservations and Parts Unknown before his suicide in 2018. There’s no concrete information on what parts of Bourdain’s life the biopic will cover.
It will be the second time we’ll see a film about Bourdain’s life. The 2021 documentary Roadrunner was a critical success. However, it courted controversy when its director revealed he’d used A.I. to create several quotes using Bourdain’s voice.
Star Thrower Entertainment (Trevor and Tim White) and A24 will produce the biopic. The Dirties and Blackberry filmmaker/actor/writer Matt Johnson is reportedly in talks to direct the movie. Lou Howe and Todd Bartels wrote the screenplay. A24, Trevor White, Tim White, Matt Johnson, and Matthew Miller will produce. Emily Rose will executive produce.
Dominic Sessa rose to stardom with his role in Alexander Payne’s coming-of-age Oscar-winning movie The Holdovers. The films saw Sessa play one of a handful of students at a New England prep school who are under the care of a curmudgeonly instructor played by Paul Giamatti.
Sessa has a role in Now You See Me 3 lined up and will be one of several newcomers to the magic-based heist series. Other upcoming roles include the festive movie Oh. What. Fun and Stephanie Laing’s Tow alongside Rose Byrne and Octavia Spencer.
Star Thrower Entertainment has been behind movies such as The Post, King Richard, No One Will Save You, Ingrid Goes West, and Wind River.
