The Pixel 6a is shaping up to be Google's best budget Pixel ever, but when it comes to the 3.5mm headphone jack, there's an unexpected twist. Finding a smartphone with a headphone jack in 2022 is all but impossible with most devices. Whether you're looking at the iPhone 13, Galaxy S22, Pixel 6 Pro, or OnePlus 10 Pro, none of the latest flagships have a headphone jack on them. It's an annoying trend, but it's also one we've had to get used to ever since the iPhone 7 ditched the headphone jack way back in 2016.
But there are some smartphones that keep the 3.5mm headphone jack alive — specifically, budget options. Last year's Galaxy A52 5G has a headphone jack, the OnePlus Nord N10 has one, and many of Motorola's Moto G handsets still have a headphone jack. This is also something that Google's regularly addressed with its affordable Pixel phones. Despite removing the headphone jack from the flagship Pixel lineup in 2017 with the Pixel 2, the Pixel 3a, Pixel 4a, and Pixel 5a have all shipped with a trusty 3.5mm headphone jack.

That brings us to the most recent Pixel 6a. Announced in May 2022, the Pixel 6a has a few exciting upgrades over its Pixel 5a predecessor. It's touting a much sleeker design, Google's custom Tensor chipset, potentially longer battery life, and more robust camera features. Unfortunately, the Pixel 6a delivers all of those upgrades without a headphone jack. After three generations of affordable Pixels — all of which had a 3.5mm headphone jack — the Pixel 6a is the first one to come without the legacy port.
