Jack Lowden steps into the shoes of English World War I-era poet Siegfried Sassoon in director Terence Davies' Benediction. The film offers an introspective look into its main subject, as it highlightsSassoon's opposition to the British government's role in the war and his struggle with his own sexuality after returning home from battle and during his later years.
In addition to Lowden, Benediction also notably stars Peter Capaldi, Kate Phillips, Jeremy Irvine, and Tom Blyth. Best known for his appearances in Dunkirk, Fighting with My Family, and Mary Queen of Scots, Lowden has taken part in his fair share of biopics and historical tales, among other genres.

Screen Rant interviewed Lowden, who elaborated on the film's key storytelling elements and spoke about his preparation for portraying Sassoon.
Screen Rant: What drew you to Benediction and to this role in particular?
Jack Lowden: The script is fantastic, so that was always the first port of call. I knew it was quite a special part. I thought what he goes through, what he gets to do is really interesting as an actor. So that, essentially, and the fact that I got offered the role — that always helps.
What steps did you take to prepare for this role?
Jack Lowden: It all came from the script, but because I'm playing a writer, there's a plethora of material — his diaries, as well as his writing, his poetry. There's just so much on him. The only thing that's missing is maybe a taped interview, so there was plenty there. I was quite blessed with that.
