Skull and Bones is a pirate game, so people will instantly assume that it has PvP, myself included. However, the game doesn’t tackle PvP the same as many had expected, so you can’t simply attack any other crew you see. So, how does PvP work?
Unfortunately to many, the PvP in Skull and Bones is not open. You can see other ships sailing the seas and you can even fire upon them, but you can never damage them. Trust me, I tried. Another ship and I got into quite the battle — at least it would have been if we were dealing any damage.
Instead of open PvP on the waves, you’ll have to wait for PvP events to start for you to test your mettle against other players. Servers will be flagged when such an event begins, but until then, you won’t be able to engage at all in high-seas skirmishes.
This decision was made after feedback from other betas. Ubisoft has decided that scrapping PvP almost entirely was the best way to keep the game balanced and fun. In a game with progression, it’ll be hard to stop lower-level pirates from faring for themselves.
Many are very unhappy with this decision, considering that this is a game about piracy, especially when countermeasures for less powerful ships can be in play, such as them being able to out-maneuver the larger, more powerful ships.

Many players are asking Ubisoft for PvP servers, where players who want to go hull-to-hull with other players can duke it out. This seems to be a very responsible solution and is one that would be easy to implement.
However, it’s all up to Ubisoft, who has stated that the PvP system is a work in progress and something that will continue to be worked on.
Now that you know all about the PvP in Skull and Bones, why don’t you check out how to join the Open Beta?
