A new spin-off has been announced during this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, with two series’ vets confirmed to be returning to reprise their roles.
Disney Branded Television and BBC announced that the all-new spin-off will be called. Doctor Who showrunner and executive producer Russell T Davies wrote the spin-off along with Pete McTighe (A Discovery of Witches).
Production for The War Between The Land And The Sea will begin next month, set to air exclusively on Disney+, BBC One, and BBC iPlayer. Though the exact release date has yet to be announced, it was revealed that the five-part series will be directed by one of Doctor Who Season 1 directors Dylan Holmes-Williams. He directed 73 Yards and Dot and Bubble.
The series will be led by American Horror Story: NYC’s Russell Tovey and Loki’s Gugu Mbatha-Raw, with Doctor Who alums Jemma Redgrave and Alexander Devrient returning as Kate Lethbridge-Stewart and Colonel Ibrahim, respectively.

“When a fearsome and ancient species emerges from the ocean, dramatically revealing themselves to humanity, an international crisis is triggered. With the entire population at risk, UNIT steps into action as the land and sea wage war,” the logline reads.
The upcoming series will also feature the return of Sea Devils, a Doctor Who villain first seen in 1972.
“I’m so lucky to work with such a magnificent cast. And this is a huge, muscular, thrilling drama which will shake The Whoniverse to its foundations. When the Doctor’s not in town, the whole of humanity is in trouble,” said Davies.
The War Between The Land And The Sea is produced by Bad Wolf. Davies will also serve as the spin-off’s executive producer, alongside Phil Collinson, Joel Collins, Julie Gardner, and Jane Tranter.
