There are few magical artifacts more useful than the Book of Vishanti as it contains spells that can be used by heroes–primarily Doctor Strange–to achieve seemingly impossible feats through incredibly powerful magic, including a spell that grants social media the power to turn someone into a literal god–which completely undermines pre-existing deities within the Marvel Universe.
The Book of Vishanti made its first appearance in the Strange Tales #116 story “Return to the Nightmare World!” by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko and is immediately recognized as a conduit of power beyond even the Sorcerer Supreme’s understanding. After the villainous Nightmare traps a number of people in his dark dimension, Doctor Strange tracks down the mystical book and uses it to enter the nightmare realm and defeat Nightmare before he could harm anyone else. Since then, the artifact has been under Doctor Strange’s protection and is only used in the most dire of circumstances. However, when one group of misguided heroes led by a ruthless, narcissistic villain finds a way to steal the Book of Vishanti, the entire hierarchy of Marvel Gods could be on the brink of total collapse.
