Warning: contains spoilers for Avengers Forever #5!
Marvel's Doctor Doom is well known for being one of the most powerful — and ambitions — villains the heroes of the Marvel Universe have ever fought against, but he also has his share of weaknesses. Victor Von Doom is appearing more and more often in Marvel Comics, and he grows stronger with every appearance. Doctor Doom and his rival, Reed Richards, were once acquaintances (if not necessarily good friends) in the backstory of both the would-be dictator and the eventual leader of the Fantastic Four. Doom desired to create a machine that would be able to project one's astral form into different dimensions (in a bid to see his deceased mother again and perhaps save her from Mephisto), but as smart as he was, he failed to realize a small error in his calculations. He ignored Reed's warnings (believing that his rival wanted to upstage him), and turned on the machine, but it failed spectacularly, exploding and giving Doom his horrifically scarred face. Because of this, Doom developed an intense hatred for Reed Richards and rarely removes his mask in front of others.
