Elizabeth Olsen has a WandaVision fan theory she wanted to see become canon in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and it pertained to Evan Peters' cameo. The MCU Disney+ show was responsible for kicking off Phase 4 in 2021 after a record-setting gap between MCU content. Due to the increased excitement to jump back into the Marvel world, WandaVision became the subject of great speculation as viewers tuned in weekly to learn why Scarlet Witch and Vision (Paul Bettany) were living their lives within the setting of TV sitcoms. It also helped that the show was confirmed to set up the events of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, in which Olsen's Wanda Maximoff was confirmed to star.
Once WandaVision debuted on Disney+, the theories about what was going on in Westview, who was responsible, and more, created a barrage of theories. Audiences obsessed over the possibility of Mephisto being WandaVision's villain, while speculation also rose about possible multiverse connections. There was also wild rumors about Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic making an appearance, and what the hexes meant. However, rumors about Peters appearing as Pietro Maximoff after playing Quicksilver in Fox's X-Men franchise brought an entirely different level of conjecture. Despite his appearance in the show, it was revealed Peters wasn't Quicksilver at all, as he was instead Westview resident Ralph Bohner.
