Having a consistent gig has its advantages, but there are drawbacks, too. Elizabeth Olsen has seen both sides of the coin with her Marvel Cinematic Universe character, Wanda Maximoff, also known as the Scarlet Witch. While she's riding high following 2021's WandaVision and her leading role in Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, it wasn't always that way, she said in a new interview with the New York Times.
«I started to feel frustrated,» Olsen said of her earlier time in the MCU. «I had this job security, but I was losing these pieces that I felt were more part of my being. And the further I got away from that, the less I became considered for it.»
Olsen's initial contract ended with Avengers: Infinity War in 2018, but it was then that Kevin Feige brought her something new: WandaVision. Olsen was initially put off by what looked like a downgrade, but dove in all the same.
«We thought what we were doing was so weird and we didn't know if we had an audience for it, so there was a freedom to it,» she said. «There was no pressure, no fear. It was a really healthy experience.»
Now, when asked if she would consider doing a solo Scarlet Witch film--nothing has been announced or hinted toward at this point--Olsen said that she thinks she would.
«But it needs to be a really good story. I think these films are best when it's not about creating content, but about having a very strong point of view--not because you need to have a three-picture plan.»
