Elizabeth Olsen defends Scarlet Witch's arc in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Wanda Maximoff returns to the MCU after the events of WandaVision, but this time she embraces her full villainy as she stops at nothing to get what she wants — to live a simple life with her sons, Tommy and Billy.
When Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was announced in 2019, Olsen's involvement as the Scarlet Witch was already confirmed. At that point, WandaVision hadn't been released, and the character's arc beyond the Infinity Saga was still unknown. But after the Maximoff Anomaly in Westview, her role in the new Sam Raimi film became a favorite topic of conversation among fans. Interestingly, instead of moving forward with her self-healing journey, Wanda takes hold of her fate and hunts down America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez) as she tries to move to a different reality where she can be with her twins. Unfortunately for her, Doctor Strange will do anything to keep America safe.

At the end of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Wanda accepts her reality and decides to sacrifice herself, partly as penance for everything that she has done. When asked about where the film leaves Scarlet Witch and the character's story in the sequel as a whole, Olsen told Hollywood Life that she's satisfied with how things end up with Wanda. She adds that she's happy with how the character evolves in the MCU. Read her full quote below:
