A new cyberpunk-inspired battle royale game from District 9 director Neill Blomkamp called Off The Grid has been revealed with an intense teaser trailer. This is Blomkamp's first project with developer Gunzilla Games since joining as its Chief Visionary Officer last year.
Neill Blomkamp is no stranger to the science-fiction genre, making his name with films such as District 9 and Elysium. Both films were praised for their political and sociological messages, dealing with topics such as racism, immigration, health care, social justice, and class separation. At one point he was in line to direct a movie in the Alien franchise, however, that project appears to have since fallen apart. In July 2021, Blomkamp turned his attention to the world of video games, joining developer Gunzilla Games and announcing that he'd be working on an upcoming online multiplayer game.

This game has now been revealed in a new teaser trailer on Gunzilla Games' YouTube to be a cyberpunk battle royale called Off The Grid (via GameSpot). As would be expected given Blomkamp's history as a science-fiction storyteller, the battle royale will be narrative-driven, with Blomkamp explaining to the publication that players will "have the option of engaging straight up in the battle royale or have the option of diving into story and story missions, almost like a campaign that you would be playing to follow a story narrative."
