Deck Nine has announced that it had laid off 20% of its overall workforce, due to the current market situation which has led to a large scale series of redundancies across the video game industry. The developer, which has developer Life Is Strange: True Colors, Life Is Strange: Before The Storm, Life Is Strange Remastered Collection, and The Expanse: A Telltale Series, confirmed the news of X, formerly known as Twitter.
In a statement, the company wrote, “Like many others in the games industry right now, Deck Nine has been affected by the game industry’s worsening market conditions. Today, we made the difficult decision to lay off 20% of our staff. These people are amazing, talented, and awesome developers. They have made a huge impact during their time at Deck Nine Games and we did not take this decision lightly. Please hire these people if you can, they are amazing.”
This follows a round of layoffs that impacted Deck Nine in May 2023. It is not known what Deck Nine is working on next, with The Expanse: A Telltale Series being its most recent release. The lay offs at Deck Nine followed the news that Sony was cutting 8% of its workforce across its studios, equating to 900 people. That includes the closure of London Studio, and reduction of staff at Naughty Dog, Guerrilla Games, and Insomniac.
