David Ayer has an odd reaction to fans' latest campaign for the release of his Suicide Squaddirector's cut. In the years since the release of 2016's Suicide Squad, Ayer has been open about how Warner Bros. interfered with his vision for the anti-hero film and altered a significant portion of it. Spurred by the success of Zack Snyder's Justice League, another DCEU director's cut that was finally released last year, fans have taken to calling for the release of the «Ayer Cut,» or Ayer's original version of the film. So far, though, Warner Bros. hasn't made any indication it intends to release Ayer's Suicide Squad, and the director himself stated last summer he would no longer speak publicly about the matter.
Nevertheless, there have still been plenty of supporters of Ayer's cut. Many of them are those who are also calling for a complete restoration of Zack Snyder's DCEU. Several of Ayer's Suicide Squad stars have even supported the idea of a director's cut, with those like Will Smith and Jared Leto stating they hope it will one day be released. Aside from sharing some peeks at his Suicide Squad, though, Ayer hasn't commented much lately on fans' efforts to get the movie released.

Some of the most fervent Snyder and Ayer supporters have been stepping up their efforts to get Warner Bros.' attention, and one of the latest tactics has been to hire a plane to fly around with the message "SnyderVerse & Ayer Cut." A video of this caught Ayer's notice, and he responded on social media with one single blushing emoji. Whether this means he is flattered by the effort or taken off guard isn't clear.
