While Daredevil is widely known as the Man Without Fear in Marvel Comics, it seems that title has been proven false as Daredevil proves he only truly fears one Marvel villain. Even though his main rival has been the Kingpin for a number of years, there is no other villain that challenges Daredevil on every level quite like Bullseye. Daredevil usually makes fairly quick work of the sadistic villain, but it seems as though Matt isn’t immune to the lasting mental and emotional impact of bearing witness to Bullseye’s cruelty, and one comic shows exactly how those impacts have manifested into very real fear.
In the Avengers: Halloween Special story “The Eyes Have It” by Rob Fee, Eoin Marron, and Mike Spicer, Matt Murdock undergoes an eye transplant surgery to once again see the world without fully relying on his heightened senses. Little did Matt know, the Kingpin discovered that he is Daredevil and blackmailed the doctor into tampering with Matt’s surgery. Matt’s doctor fills his tear ducts with a powerful hallucinogen, one which brings his worst fears to life, and one that will never lose its potency.

After the surgery, Matt is visited by his friends, Foggy and Karen, but instead of seeing them as they are, Matt sees them as Bullseye. Drugged out of his mind and stricken with absolute fear, Daredevil lashes out at his friends and kills them as he believes he’s fending off the deadly villain. The fact that the fear-inducing drug made Daredevil see Bullseye, of all the terrifying villains in the Marvel Universe, proves that Bullseye, and the threat he poses to Matt and his friends, is the one thing that actually scares the Man Without Fear.
