The stakes were well and truly raised with the death of Thelema and the rise of Therion. Boss battles in Crystar have finally gotten difficult, the plot is well and truly underway, and the end is fast approaching. What dastardly menace does the game have in store for Rei and pals? Bourbaki.

Bourbaki is pretty underwhelming visually, and mechanically. It’s very much a clone of Carneades. But when you pump up the stats, multiply the number of enemies by three, things suddenly get quite tricky. This fight may be retreading familiar ground, but if you aren’t prepared for a slog, you might get knocked down.
There are three Bourbaki in this fight, each one a tanky so-and-so, and each one capable of firing off a homing projectile of varying color. These projectiles are slow-moving, highly damaging, and able to interrupt you if they catch you during an attack.
The worst part, each projectile is laced with a different status ailment, and none of these ailments are good. The two you want to look out for are Slow and Confusion. Slow is the killer of the bunch. It drastically reduces your movement speed and slashes your dash range significantly. If you are hit by Slow, the odds of you getting hit again go up exponentially.
Confusion, on the other hand, is purely there to mess with your head. If you are afflicted, your controls are flipped. This makes moving, dodging, and attacking incredibly difficult. The best-case scenario is your offense is delayed slightly whilst you wait out the effect. The worst-case scenario is you get hit again, and are cursed with Slow on top of Confusion. Whilst not a death sentence, your day can’t get much worse.
