Colin Firth reveals that he thinks Mamma Mia 3 could happen, as well as a fourth and fifth film. First released in 2008, Mamma Mia! is a juke box musical featuring the much-loved music of the band ABBA. The film starred Meryl Streep and Amanda Seyfried as mother and daughter duo Donna and Sophie, and followed Sophie as she sought to discover the identity of her father, days before she was due to marry her fiancé, Sky, played by Dominic Cooper. Following the success of the first film, the cast would return 10 years later for Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, this time with Pam & Tommy star Lily James playing a young Donna, after it was revealed that Streep's character had passed away.
At the centre of the first Mamma Mia! film, and still with a key role to play in the sequel, were Sophie's three potential fathers: Sam, Bill & Harry, played by Pierce Brosnan, Stellan Skarsgård and Firth, respectively. As audiences returned to the picturesque island of Kalokairi alongside this returning cast of beloved characters, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again enjoyed a largely successful box office run, spawning immediate discussions of a potential third instalment. For now, news surrounding Mamma Mia 3 has been incredibly sparse, with no concrete information at this time. However, Firth has now offered a rather positive take on the potential future of the feel-good franchise.
