Scott Menville, the original Teen Titans voice actor for Robin, felt protective of the character for Teen Titans Go!. The original Teen Titans animated series ran on Cartoon Network from 2003 to 2006. While the show was only slated to run for four seasons, its immense popularity led to a final fifth season and a movie. Teen Titans Go! is a reboot of the original series and has been airing on Cartoon Network since 2013.
To date, Teen Titans is one of Cartoon Network's most successful series. Following this success, Teen Titans Go! was created with the same characters and the same voice actors of the original series, but with a vastly different style. Whereas Teen Titans was an anime-inspired series that dealt with darker themes and more serious topics, Teen Titans Go! has a much more cartoonish animation style, and is largely a light-hearted comedy series. While some critics disliked the more humorous reboot, Teen Titans Go! has been fairly well-received by audiences and praised as aTeen Titans series for a new generation.

In an exclusive interview with Screen Rant, Menville says that he felt very protective over his original Robin even though he voiced the character in Teen Titans Go!. With Teen Titans and Teen Titans Go! boasting such different tones, Menville says that he realized Teen Titans Go! might not appeal to fans of the original. However, Menville also finds that there is love among fans of Teen Titans for the reboot series, as the characters' personalities are explored in very different ways.
