Cody Rhodes leaving AEW for WWE shocked many wrestling fans, and he recently took to Twitter to clear up any misconceptions about the move. Early in 2022, rumors started to swirl that The American Nightmare would be leaving the company he helped found, All Elite Wrestling, to return to his roots in WWE. Those rumblings came to fruition during WrestleMania 38 when Rhodes emerged as Seth Rollins' surprise opponent.
That kick-started a feud that will culminate at the upcoming Hell In A Cell premium live event, with Rhodes and Rollins set to square off for the third time in the titular structure. Their rivalry has been one of the stronger components of Monday Night Raw lately, and WWE hasn't been shy about leveraging Rhodes' attention to detail and drawing power. They've taken to utilizing a "Countdown to Cody" clock during the broadcasts, and his presence has helped bring viewers back to Raw during the generally less-viewed third hour of the broadcast.

Rhodes' shift from AEW to WWE upset some fans in All Elite Wrestling. In a post that has since been deleted, one Twitter user expressed this feeling by mentioning Cody in a tweet, stating that they wouldn't be purchasing the upcoming Double Or Nothing pay-per-view because Tony Khan wouldn't pay Cody Rhodes "what he deserves." Rhodes responded, writing that "(f)ull stop: the money and creative story that misguided brudda [sic] put out there has already been rebuffed by all parties." Rhodes continued, stating that he was proud of his "peers/kids there," before adding, "(i)t was just personal and it was just time to go for the big one."
