The Civilization games remain one of the most recognized and beloved turn-based strategy franchises out there. Spanning six mainline games alongside several spinoffs, the series typically sees players constructing a civilization from scratch and establishing it as a world power through one of several means. Civilization 6, the latest entry, proved no less successful than the previous installments, achieving an 88 score on Metacritic. However, considering that game came out over six years ago, fans no doubt feel eager to experience a brand new Civilization installment. And it turns out that developer Firaxis Games feels the same way, as it just announced Civilization 7 on Twitter.
Firaxis Games did not say much about this new Civilization entry in its announcement tweet, only saying that it has entered development. Technically, the game doesn’t even have an officially revealed name yet, with the developer only cheekily remarking that it may include Civilization in the title. Thus far, the series hasn’t broken from the “Sid Meier’s Civilization plus sequel number” format, so expect the same here.
Right as Firaxis Games revealed this, though, two notable individuals announced their departure from the studio. One of these individuals, Jake Solomon, served as the creative director for both the XCOM series and Marvel’s Midnight Suns. The other individual, Steve Martin, worked as both the president and studio head. Both of them worked at the studio for well over two decades, so these are incredibly high-profile departures. They both released their individual statements on Twitter, thanking the people they have worked with over the years.
