Marvel's Midnight Suns and XCOM director Jake Solomon and studio head Steve Martin have both announced they will be leaving Firaxis as the studio undergoes an overhaul. The shakeup sees Heather Hazen promoted to studio head, who joined the developer in 2020. All revealed in a 2K press release, a new Civilization game is also now in development and post-launch support of Marvel's Midnight Suns will continue.
On Twitter, Jake Solomon posted he's off to chase a new dream as he feels «other, smarter people» can continue to push the tactical turn-based genre forward. «I'm grateful to my Firaxis teammates, past and present, for making dreams into reality. Genuine love and gratitude. We did some real good stuff together. I'm grateful to 2K for always believing in the dreams, and always supporting us with the time and resources needed to bring them to life.»
Alongside a new Civilization title, Firaxis also has further Marvel's Midnight Suns DLC in the works. One expansion has already been released, and with the Venom-focused pack announced for next week, another two content drops from the season pass are planned. It's not known whether there'll be any further DLC beyond that.
On her promotion to studio head, Heather Hazen said she's thrilled to carry on the legacy of Firaxis. «I'm lucky to be working with some of the best developers in our industry, and we have plans to take the Civilization franchise to exciting new heights for our millions of players around the world. In addition, we will continue to support Marvel's Midnight suns with post-launch content, and explore new creative projects for our teams.»
