Call of Duty Black Ops: Gulf War, this year's entry in the series, will feature an open-world campaign that will bring Modern Warfare 3's Open World Missions to a whole different level.
As reported by well-known insider Tom Henderson on Insider Gaming, this year's entry in the series will feature an open-world campaign in the vein of Far Cry built from the ground up, so there won't be any reused assets from previous games.
Currently, the game’s open world will see the player and their squad navigate the map more akin to that of Far Cry than anything we’ve seen before in the Call of Duty universe. Players will be able to utilize vehicles to get around, as well as using a fast travel system to get from one point to the next. Although the scope of how many linear missions there will be remains to be seen, sources confirmed that some linear missions will be integrated into the game.
Additionally, the Call of Duty Black Ops: Gulf War created by Raven Software will see the return of some Black Ops characters, such as Adler. Interestingly enough, this could be the way forward for the series' main campaigns, as 2025's entry in the series, currently known as Saturn, is also going to feature an open-world campaign. Things, however, could change before release, as this game still doesn't have an assigned leading developer.
The latest entry in the series is Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3. You can learn more about it in our review.
