C-Smash VRS, the PSVR 2 exclusive reimagining of cult classic Dreamcast game Cosmic Smash, is coming out on 26th June 2023. Don’t want to wait until then? Well, there’s a free playable demo out now on the PlayStation Store.
Published by RapidEyeMovers and developed by Wolf & Wood, C-Smash VRS revives the futuristic sports game Cosmic Smash. Originally released in arcades and in a limited run on Dreamcast, it’s a blend of squash or tennis and Breakout, with walls of blocks to bounce a ball off in 3D space.
C-Smash VRS will feature a full single-player journey mode, but that will come alongside online modes for both multiplayer and co-op play. The demo includes the tutorial, a selection of content from the Training mode and a Versus mode that you can play online.

The full game promises more Versus modes, a space station to explore and an even broader soundtrack made of original dynamic tracks made by DJ Ken Ishii (Rez Infinite) and synth master Danalogue (front man of The Comet is Coming and Soccer 96).
We got to go hands on with C-Smash VRS at the start of this month, sampling both solo and versus modes. It’s a great blend of modern gaming technology and what is an effectively timeless sports game – who hasn’t bounced a ball off a wall, at some point in their lives?
