Bulwark: Falconeer Chronicles will launch on 26th March, Wired Productions and solo developer Tomas Sala have announced, with a new demo coming out at the end of January. Bulwark is coming to PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, Xbox One and PC.
Set in the same world as The Falconeer, Bulwark leaps from the aerial combat genre across to an open world settlement builder and strategy game. You’ll still be surrounded by the tempestuous waters of the Great Ursee, so anything that you build will have to cling to the edge of cliff edges and sheer drops above the raging seas below.
You’ll be responsible for setting up trade routes and assigning Captains, building command towers with dockyards, and then walls, gates and other defences to repel the attacks by other factions. The game clings onto the distinctive minimalist style of The Falconeer as well, and leans in on the procedural elements to bring all the elements together.
An ‘evolving demo’ was previously available on Steam, with Sala iterating upon these ideas and introducing new elements over time, but now a new demo is being released on 30th January. This will be available across all platforms, and give players access to one complete scenario with the ability to grow your settlement up to 15 buildings. Late game elements like Wonder, Leaders and other factions will only be available at the game’s full launch.
While this game shifts to a totally different genre, you might still like to check in on the origins of the world. In our The Falconeer review, Jason wrote, “I find myself a little perplexed by The Falconeer. I still thoroughly enjoyed my time with the game, but it almost felt like I was doing so in spite of how I felt about the gameplay. I do think The Falconeer is going to find an audience that loves it wholeheartedly, but also that there will be plenty of others for whom this falls a bit flat too.”
