Its release date may not be until March 15, but the star of Bridgerton season 2, Simone Ashley, has revealed that she hopes her character, new love interest Kate Sharma, will be able to return in future seasons. Ashley first came to global attention for her role as Olivia, a member of the Untouchables clique in the Netflix teen comedy series Sex Education. The announcement that she had been cast opposite Jonathan Bailey as his character Anthony Bridgerton's love interest in Bridgerton season 2 sparked joy from fans.
Bridgerton season 1 became Netflix's most-watched show ever when it was released in December 2020, and a year later is now second behind only Squid Game. Based on the series of novels by Julia Quinn, it follows the stories of the eight alphabetically-named siblings of the Bridgerton family and their attempts to navigate romance and courtship in the cut-throat world of Regency-era high society. After the first season told the story of middle sibling Daphne, the focus in season 2 has now moved to eldest brother Anthony and his romance with Kate Sharma. Bridgerton has also received praise for its reimagining of 18th century England as a country in which racial diversity thrived, with the series creating an elaborate alternative history in which Queen Charlotte's reign ushered in a new era of integration in London high society.
