The Pixel Ripped series was one of the unsung heroes of the PSVR’s library, as it fused modern technology with retro gaming, but the newly announced Pixel Ripped 1978 is seriously levelling the franchise up. Backed by Atari, this PSVR2 title will take you back to the peak of the publisher’s popularity, where you’ll be working as a fledgling game designer.
As is customary for the series, the release will break the fourth wall, emerging you into classics like Crystal Castles and Yars’ Revenge, as you hunt for bugs and relive Atari’s glory years from the inside. The blurb reads: “Our hero Dot has to once again fight against the evil Cyblin Lord, who has a very complex plan: to hack into the game creator’s past at Atari and to make himself the protagonist!”
To be honest, this looks incredible – and it’s so awesome to see Atari involved with exciting projects like this. There’s no concrete release date just yet, but the game is preliminarily pegged for the summer. It’d be nice to see the other Pixel Ripped entries ported to PSVR2 alongside it, as they’re all very much worth a playthrough.

This looks so good! Amazing to see Atari involved with something like this!
Hell yes!!! I’m in. Want it now.
These games are such a unique experience. An original idea only vr can bring and one that has to be played to appreciated. Hats off to the devs and hopefully this’ll do really well for them
