Following the finalisation of Microsoft's purchase of Activision-Blizzard-King earlier today, Bobby Kotick has confirmed in an email to staff that he will resign as CEO on January 1, 2024.
After nearly two years and a whole lot of back-and-forth between Microsoft, the CMA, and Sony, Xbox's acquisition of Activision Blizzard for $70 billions has finally been completed. Now that the deal has been finalised, it seems that Microsoft is already planning to set some changes in motion, including the removal of current CEO Bobby Kotick.

As showcased in an internal email that has been shared by Twitter user Wario64, Bobby Kotick will remain CEO of Activision Blizzard until the end of the year. In the email, Kotick says that he is "fully committed" to helping with the transition and that Phil Spencer asked him to stay on as CEO "through the end of 2023", although Kotick also confirms he'll still be reporting to Spencer during that time.
Kotick said, "I have long said that I am fully committed to helping with the transition. Phil has asked me to stay on as CEO of ABK, reporting to him, and we have agreed that I will do that through the end of 2023. We both look forward to working together on a smooth integration for our teams and players".
After confirming that he'll resign from the company at the start of 2024, Kotick says, "Brian and I couldn’t be more excited for the next chapter for ABK. We now join one of the most successful global companies, poised for unprecedented opportunities to connect the world through our
games. As a part of Microsoft, we will be even better, together".
