The president of Blizzard Mike Ybarra has refuted reports that the company is bringing NFTs to its games.
In a post on Twitter, the exec said that the firm was not interested in doing non-fungible tokens. This comes in the wake of a report from Gamerant claiming that Blizzard is polling interest in the crypto-based business model.
This research – conducted by YouGov – asked participants to rate their interest in a number of topics, such as NFTs and play-to-earn gaming.
Why Blizzard is polling consumers as to their interest in these kinds of business models is unclear if the company is not interested in pursuing them is not clear, though it is entirely possible that this was a general question from YouGov to gauge interest in Web 3 models rather than something specifically from the Overwatch giant.
Were Blizzard to enter the crypto space, it would have a lot of companies from other games companies. Square Enix, Atari and Ubisoft have all shown interest – and even pursued – this kind of business in recent years.
