Galyn Susman, the producer of the upcoming Pixar film Lightyear, has stated that details about the evil Emperor Zurg are spoilers for the movie, and therefore she cannot reveal much before its release. The film will act as a spinoff of the Toy Story franchise, presenting Buzz Lightyear's origin story. Voiced by Chris Evans, the Space Ranger embarks on a sci-fi adventure throughout the cosmos.
The evil Emperor Zurg was first seen in Pixar's Toy Story 2, which was released in 1999. Introduced as the villain of Buzz Lightyear's franchise, Zurg was voiced by the movie's director, Andrew Stanton. Soon after Toy Story 2's release, a hand-drawn spinoff series called Buzz Lightyear of Star Command aired on television featuring the titular hero, along with a new crew and his arch-nemesis. The «Star Command» name has made its way to many forms of media, including Disney theme park rides.
