Disney and Pixar's Lightyear will show fans the origins of the Space Ranger and his first adventure through time and space. Chris Evans will voice the iconic character, but with the second trailer, we get to know the crew that will join Lightyear against the forces of Zerg, his robotic archnemesis.
Taika Waititi, Keke Palmer, and Dale Soules join Evans on this initial adventure as Morrison, Hawthorne, and Steel, respectively. Morrison is the rookie who thought he was signing up for boot camp, Hawthorne is the granddaughter of Buzz's old partner, and Darby Steel is a demolitions expert that is doing military service against her prison time served.
In Lightyear, we see the beginnings of Buzz starting from space explorer to action hero as he accidentally travels over 60 years into the future and takes on the forces of Zerg and his robot army. Lightyear is the latest from Pixar Studios and the second of the year with the acclaimed Turning Red, which was only released on Disney+.
Buzz is also the only character from the Toy Story franchise to be in two spin-off series, the first being the animated series Buzz Lightyear of Star Command, with Patrick Warburton providing the voice of the Space Ranger.
Lightyear is directed by Annie Award-winning director and veteran Pixar animator Angus MacLane, who co-directed 2016's Finding Dory. Pixar alum Galyn Susman will produce the spin-off movie.
The voice cast also includes Peter Sohn, Uzo Aduba, Mary McDonald-Lewis, Efren Ramirez, Isiah Whitlock Jr., and James Brolin as Zerg.
Lightyear blasts to theaters June 17.
