One of Black Panther's VFX artists explains why the final fight between Erik Killmonger (Michael B. Jordan) and T'Challa (Chadwick Boseman) looked so bad. Directed by Ryan Coogler, the 18th film in the MCU properly introduces audiences to the technologically-advanced nation of Wakanda and its citizens. Black Panther was both a critical and commercial success, but it did have a generic final fight scene made worse by questionable CGI work.
Introduced in Captain America: Civil War, Boseman's titular character continued his MCU arc by starring in his first solo film in 2018. Boasting a predominantly African-American ensemble, Black Panther also marked Jordan's return to the Marvel film sandbox following the panned The Fantastic Four from 2015. Black Panther broke box office records, pocketing $1.3 billion across the globe. It also went on to garner multiple award nominations, including a Best Picture nod at the Oscars.

The visuals ofBlack Panther generally looked great. But, the CGI work on the blockbuster was noticeably lacking towards the end. VFX artist Todd Sheridan Perry, who was working with Marvel out of Method Studio at that time, explained to Inverse what went down behind the scenes that led to this. Apparently, it boiled down to a last-minute creative change from Marvel Studios that made it impossible for them to finish the movie on time.
