These new home decor tools provide more than just a library of colors. Some present an augmented reality view of various palettes on the iPhone user's walls and scanning colors from paint chips or the user's home to explore a range of possibilities.
Apple introduced ARKit with iOS 11, bringing a unified approach to augmented reality to the iPhone and iPad and instantly making it one of the largest AR platforms in the world. While the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro have LiDAR scanners to speed up AR capabilities, any iPhone made since 2013 can install AR apps and see effects overlaid onto live camera views.

Using the iPhone's AR, the latest generation of paint apps makes it easy to see how a fresh new wall color can brighten and enhance the look of a room. Several decorating apps are available for the iPhone, but only a few focus on wall paint and feature the new visualization power of AR. Sherwin Williams, a paint manufacturer, offers one of the best solutions. The ColorSnap Visualizer app gives a live AR view of its large selection of paints with a simple tap on a wall as viewed within the app. It's also possible to select a color from a photo to find a match within Sherwin Williams paint which is lovely for touchups or repairs. Consumers can scan the code to preview the paint via AR if a favorite color chip has already been found.
