Wrong lessons A real shame to hear that Gran Turismo 7 has not been much of a smash hit in the UK, according to the latest sales info. The UK is supposed to be one of its biggest markets, so it’s probably done even worse in the US. It’s not a literal flop but I can’t help fearing that it will be seen as that by Sony, since it’s clearly not going to make much difference to console sales or the PlayStation 5’s reputation.
It’s a shame on a number of levels, not least because I really like the game and think it’s the best one since the PlayStation 2 era. But there’s also the issue that it’s the only first party game made by a Japanese team, which is going to send all the wrong messages, and that they’re probably going to think they should make a Forza Horizon clone next – instead of carrying on with more serious simulations.
Sony need another big hitter to hype up and at the moment all they’ve got is God Of War Ragnarök, which still hasn’t got a release date. Now I worry that they’ll just go full speed into making live service games, which is a direction that really worries me.Melvin
What a Pratt Reading about the Nintendo theme park in America, I completely forgot that the Mario animated movie is supposed to be coming out this year and we still haven’t seen so much as a screenshot of it, let alone a trailer. That’s pretty weird for a movie isn’t it?
