Gran Turismo 7 has failed to knock Elden Ring off the top spot in the UK digital sales charts, but has comfortably taken second place.
To say FromSoftware’s latest release, Elden Ring, is killing it would be a understatement. It is currently 2022’s best-selling game in the US and, as of March 5, a week since its release, it is still the UK’s best-selling downloaded game, according to the latest Games Sales Data.
PlayStation remains the most popular platform for the game, with 42% of its sales across PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4. 32% of sales were for Xbox, with 26% on PC, as shared by GamesIndustry.biz.
This means Elden Ring is performing better than Gran Turismo 7, despite the latter being a newer, highly anticipated release. Granted, Elden Ring has the advantage of releasing for five platforms, while Gran Turismo 7 is exclusive to PlayStation.
The racing game has still taken a comfortable second place in the charts, with more than half of its sales (57%) being digital. Unsurprisingly, the PlayStation 5 version was more popular with 78% of sales, making it the third biggest PlayStation 5 launch of the year so far, behind Elden Ring and Horizon Forbidden West.
However, it was only the fifth fastest-selling Gran Turismo title overall, in terms of numbered sequels beating only Gran Turismo 3, 6, and the 1998 original, according to additional data from GamesIndustry.biz.
While it won’t affect sales, Gran Turismo 7 could make some extra money for Sony through its microtransactions. These weren’t really advertised prior to its launch, but they are there and borderline obnoxious, making the in-game cars worth upwards of £160.
