Battlefield 2042 petition hits 50K target for console and PC refunds
metro.co.ukFans have got so fed up with Battlefield 2042 they’re now demanding a full refund, on all formats, and their petition is gathering steam.
Lots of multiplayer games have suffered bad launches but then gone on to redeem themselves via later updates but it’s looking increasingly unlikely that Battlefield 2042 is going to pull off that same trick.
Released last November to widespread complaints about bugs and a lack of features, the game has made little headway since and so far it’s only notable achievement is becoming one of Steam’s worst reviewed games of all time.
As if that wasn’t bad enough Season One of the game was recently delayed until ‘early summer’ and now there’s a petition on Change.org demanding a refund for everyone, and it’s already passed 50,000 signatures.
‘EA’s release of Battlefield 2042 was a mockery of every customer who purchased this video game for $70 due to EA’s false advertising’, says the petition.
‘Battlefield 2042 has cost consumers millions of dollars in damages and upset thousands of customers worldwide.’
The petition points out that Steam already allows full refunds and that this should be extended to console users and PC owners that bought the game elsewhere.
It’s also stated that if the number of signatures reaches 50,000, ‘one of the best class action lawsuit lawyers in the country is willing to take our case against EA’.
At time of writing the number is over 53,000, so whether that’s just bluster or the organisers really do have a lawyer lined up remains to be seen.
Either way, class action lawsuits are not uncommon in the games industry, although this one would likely only be for US players.
